ZORA MURAL:

"Her eyes were watching god"

You’re not alone and you don’t have to live lost in sorrow or fear. You just have to look up to the sky and find the light already inside of you.

This piece is made for the growth of our youth. We want the youth to see how things always get better, there is always going to be a better day. This collaboration shows  that darkness is going to happen, people might not believe in you, they might put you down, question your intelligence, but you are capable of overcoming all of those obstacles. You are able to surpass the stereotypes and judgments of others if you look up, if you reach for your goals, you will be successful. Regardless of whats around you, or what people tell you.

Full Poem: "Silver Linings" BY TRUE POET

SILVER LININGS /// BY TRUE POET

I’m not trying to say my life is perfect

Cause a crystal figurine glued back together can never be perfect

But baby I’m standing

And I’m shining

I’m opening up my eyes and finding more things in my life that are ok

I’m happy

I’m writing love poems so sappy

I’m lapping up all the fine wine

I’m finally dining at the table of life

And I’m grubbing

See before I was Cinderella scrubbing

But now I’m bumping shoulders

With box seat ticket holders

Like the clock is never going to strike 12

Like sweet chocolate doesn’t melt

But that’s okay cause I fast good

Just like Black educated men can still come out of the hood

Once they find their balance

When they remember where they came from

And what happens to surround them

The world is trying to drown them

In a puddle of blood

From not knowing love

But they’ve surpassed that

And i’ve learned that

The silver linings are not hiding

Like many I did not know

That they were found floating around

the heaviest of clouds

A glow

Celestial and angelic

Severely magnetic

Holding so much kinetic energy

Just waiting to blow

. . .

But it just goes to show

That it’s always going to rain

Just like you and I

Are always gonna feel pain

Just like nothing ever really stays the same

I’m sure a thunderstorm will definitely change the terrain

But the soil, probably just needed water for plants to sprout

Don’t doubt the power of struggle

Don’t expect your bubble not to pop

Stop worrying about your future and live in the now

What’s around us

Street parks that ground us

Dreams that hound us

Beats that meet the sound of our ancestors

The ones who knew hope and faith

On a first name basis

Getting discriminated by bigoted racists

They found their silver linings

Never once going skydiving

So you just kinda gotta look up

At a cloudy sky

Find the light peering

Through the darkness is ok.

The sun can still RISE on the next day

You can still RISE

You just gotta find your silver linings..

German Lemus - BIO

A moderate and humble soul, Lemus is an artist of strength and awareness also an inspiration to his community. Seeker of truth, an infallible finder of life, Lemus has learned that accepting one’s Artistry uplifts the soul and eliminates the weight to one self. Such an innate understanding of this truth can be the first most valuable virtue we should all be inspired to attain – dedication to one’s own consciousness and craftsmanship.  Originated from Honduras, to Miami, Clearwater, Lemus now calls Orlando home. Arriving to the US Lemus struggled with the English language but would soon find a way to figure it all out through Visual Arts programs in the inner city. Lemus solidifies his foundation to the arts from High School in Miami and gives credit of his work ethic from being enlisted in the Army. Comedic sketches of drill sergeants and superiors evolved into murals, paintings and t-shirt designs.   After serving the military, he became an art tutor in a program called “Soldiers to Scholars” where he fell in love with mentoring children. He later enrolled in community college where he had formal education in multimedia design and visual arts – attaining years of practical art skills in a condensed period of time. In college, he found the artistic style of Impressionism. At this point, Lemus absorbed the confidence he found in the Impressionist movement, combined it with the urban influence of his youth and furthered his technique.  Lemus is also 1 of 7 founding members of The B-Side Artists. “City kids turned young adult, dedicated to appreciating and expressing the beauty found amongst gum-covered sidewalks and sticker-adorned light posts. Lemus has currently displayed in several local pop-up galleries throughout Florida as well as in fine art galleries such as City Arts Factory (Orlando, FL) and Artopia (Miami, FL) Castle Hotel I-Drv. Christian Academy fundraiser and Freedom Riders, Red bull canvas cooler, Big eye mural contest winner, ‘More than sunshine’ collective show, Live painting at Artlando of a complete Toyota Scion, Artlando winner two years in a row, Ronald Macdonald house artist recipient for art being displayed at new facility,  Artegon marketplace co-op exhibit {2000 squ. Ft. of art displayed}, 10 years house artist for Café tu tu tango live painting experience, Orl. mural #2: "Tree of Creation"

Based on the tree of life. The mandalas represent the universe and the roots represent what grounds us into human form. The baby is going into the womb of the tree of Mother Nature that I like to call the “portal of creation".

SHINING /// BY JUAQUINA SHE

I hope that when you look up into the sky

You see yourself

Because you sparkle as bright as the sun

In the middle of July

I hope the stars will remind you

To always be yourself

To always be the light

To always stand apart

The skies can be a lonely place for the sun

But it never apologizes or hides

It doesn’t care about the opinions of others or fitting in

Each morning, it will always do what it was made to do

And it is my hope that this will be your daily reminder

To always do what you were made to do

mural#3: "Shining Down on You"

Without our ancestors we would be nothing. Through the work of legends such as Booker T Washington, Ida B Wells, & Malcolm X we're able to rise to the echelons of society we're in today. But the work far from over, with them now forever watching over us it is our time now to carry the torch and lead the way to a brighter future.

Based off of Zora Neale Hurston’s “Of Mules and Men”. This work is an anthropological exploration of the South. Within this folktale, a man takes on a lion for the title of king, rising over all living things.

“Royalty”

I am royalty

Nappy hair, coiled,

Beady beads

Rasta locs

Sewn down to perfection

Baby hair laid like butter

skin is as deep as the Nile

As smooth as shea

Black as hematite or

as yellow as a sunflower

I am royalty.

A queen to say the least

A goddess if I’m being

Modest I was made in

God’s reflection

so I gotta be the hottest

The sun speaks to me

Because he loves my

Melanated skin

My glow within

Is reflected in my walk

Does my haughtiness offend you?

And the way that I talk?

I will not be silent

You will hear when I come

You will know when I leave

And if my presence isn’t missed

Then my absence is a necessity

You don’t have to like me

But you will respect me

This world can not hold me

I am a warrior - the epitome

Of unstoppable

Queen of the jungle

Lioness of her tribe

They will write about me

in history books

my power they will describe

as boundless.

I am royalty

I’m not your Property so

Approach me properly

Like I pass life through my womb

I am changing

I’m freed

I’m freed

from my cocoon.

MURAL#5: "INFINITE SUNRISE"

The unity between modern Orlando and a historic Eatonville; the people living together and becoming something greater than their situations and grow “even through [the] gray cement” of what can be a harsh urban world. This mural is an expression of how the children of these two cities will grow from today into the beauty of tomorrow.

In this world of much confinement

I'm reliant on the far horizon to strike my stars into alignment between these silver linings.

We are infinite in our sentiments.

We grow taller even through gray cement,

until our heights reach those of heaven and all of our times well-spent.

Because we are infinite.

mural#6: “Brothers and sisters”

Inspired by Eatonville’s history ,founders  and values and based off Raquels poem “Brothers and sisters”

"I was inspired to write this piece from my experience of being a part of the March for Our Lives organization. Being a part of the group really allowed to understand how it feels to be a young person in America. We are constantly stressed and we go through a lot mentally but knowing your strength and power and realizing how you can use to change the world can make all the difference. But it’s also about how we need to come together as brothers and sisters instead of tearing each other apart" - Raquel.

Mural: by AJ BarbelPoetry: by  Raquel PerryCalligraphy Art: by Gina Tyquiengco

Full Poem: "BRother's And Sister's" BY RAQUEL PERRY

We are brothers and sisters

Daughters and sons of a generation

Who wanted to give up on love years ago

But we do our best to uncover it

We are a constellation

Beautifully illuminated by our imperfections

But we wear our indifferences like armor

Because we fear what we’ll see if we’re allowed

One second of individuality

To understand emotions and display vulnerability

We are brothers and sisters

Who inhale criticism and exhale cynicism

Because the men before us did not acknowledge a cruel world

So, we can only embrace it

Drape ourselves in abject misery

Try to stitch and mend the problems of our history

We are the brothers and sisters

A mass of degenerates in despair

Who crave a sweet, numbing  feeling

For the lack of love that knew

Because no one told us that we would be born in such a place

I wonder when unhappiness became so impossible to replace

But all throughout

The energy

The passion

The optimism

The pride

We are here  together

With a fulfillment of desire to do something better

For the next generation
